Decentralized Solid Waste Management

Course Overview

This 3-day short course on Decentralized Solid Waste Management is designed to equip participants with knowledge and skills to effectively manage solid waste at the community level. The course will cover topics such as waste segregation, composting, recycling, and waste-to-energy technologies. Participants will also learn about the importance of community engagement in solid waste management, and how to develop and implement sustainable waste management plans.

Content and Learning

This course will cover the following topic areas:

Unit 1: Introduction Waste Management in Ghana
Unit 2: Decentralized Solid Waste Management
Unit 3: Waste Reduction and Recycling
Unit 4: Waste-to-Energy Technologies
Unit 5: Community Engagement and Sustainable Waste Management Plans
Unit 6:Visit to Waste Management Facilities(IRECOP, Waste Landfills, Waste Transfer Stations)

Admissions

This course is open to individuals who are interested in learning about decentralized solid waste management. There are no specific admission requirements for this program. Participants will be required to attend all sessions of the course to be eligible for the KNUST certificate upon completion.
